The campground season ended October 16th and we spent the next few days shutting down the campground and packing the RV. By October 20th we were ready to hit the road.
We decided to winter the RV in southern BC a couple of years ago due to the moderate climate. We return to a more severe winter in Cochrane Alberta. We were so fortunate this year to drive south in the RV. We did start in the rain but did not see snow and the sun did come out. However, we decided to follow the valley rather than take the connector at a much higher altitude and risk of snow perhaps ice.
I don’t want to say driving the RV is difficult but you do have to watch for the other guy and so many don’t understand a 36′ RV isn’t an SUV. Consequently, we purchased a dash webcam just in case.
That’s what we used to capture some beautiful views of B.C.’s Okanagan and the trip home. Traffic in Vernon and Kelowna did extend our drive beyond our planned 6 hour 13 minute trip. The trip length and travelling in the dark made for one tired driver.
We’re getting wiser after 8 seasons as hosts of the Williams Lake Stampede Campground and spent 3 nights in Penticton and Kelowna to unwind and visit friends and family. We also made sure the R.V. got a checkup at Midtown R.V. Good news, its in good health.
The video includes some shots of the 2023 landslide near Summerland. A year later two lanes are open but their still working on it.
While I really enjoyed our downtime, I did convince Della our luck might not hold and we should point the SUV east for home. We took the shorter route up Highway 97 and the Trans Canada.
The recent construction at Golden to straighten some curves is impressive.
The weather held and we didn’t see snow until reaching low altitudes in Alberta.
We reached home at night, again after construction delays in the mountains. But that’s it, we’re home. We head back west in a short 5 months.
